I only ask because they keep the grass cut along that stretch. IIUC, cutting the grass is their responsibility so, I thought maintaining the trees would be the same. I'll find out this week. They're closed today.
The county mows the verges, but the property between the fence and the road is still yours. They might do something, but I don't know that they're obligated to do it. I know they've taken out trees between my fence and the road for no apparent reason, and when the trees near my gate dropped giant branches on the road they cleared the roadway, but for things that haven't gone onto the roadway, I've had to take care of them.

Ask them if you cut it up if they'll haul it off.
Better yet, ask them if you can have the whole thing. It doesn't seem like it now will all the heat we've been having this summer but winter is eventually going to get here and if you can't use the [fire]wood yourself then you can always sell it.
