It's settled as far as local news anyway, they reported he turned down the Tennessee job. He supposed to take a pay cut next year, 2.85 million or something like that, then over the next few years climb back up.
Actually Gundy has said several times that he wants to schedule the easiest OOC schedule possible so it is easier to win a CC. I'm not agreeing with anyone on this because every one plays good and bad OOC games, but your statement here was just flat out incorrect...

If Gundy cared about the program and the fan base, wouldn't he come out and strongly and affirmatively state that he is in fact remaining the Cowboy's head coach?

And that's exactly why it is such a big deal, I don't think he is leaving, (could be wrong though) so why not affirm that if it is the case? The school has said that Tennessee hasn't contacted them, but that was a week or two ago...
