Went out early this morning and ran 100 rounds of my 125 gr. JSP's through my 4" .357 Mag GP-100 at the 25 yd. gongs......I was the only one on the range and I had a good time.

Shot about 200 9 mm at my normal Thursday range trip. Talking to My shooting buddy we have shot every Thursday for almost a year. We had 7people at last Thursday’s informal IDPA Style fun day. Ya’ll are welcome.

Started back with weekly range trips on Tuesdays with the wife a few weeks ago after not going at all for months due to Chinese virus concerns. But I have cut way back on shooting 9mm because I only have a couple thousand rounds and I'm kind of keeping them in reserve....

So, wife shoots her S&W M&P 22 compact and I went out and bought me a Glock 44. I like it because my EDC is a Glock 19 and it is the same size, fits my holsters and has pretty much the same trigger as my G19.

Been trying for the last two weeks to zero the G44 because it was shooting left and high even shooting from a rest when I got it. Adjustable sights moved the POI to the right where it is dead on now. Adjusted rear sight to lowest position allows POI at POA and 7 yards, but is about 2 inches high at 15 yards. I'm surprised that it is that much different but I've shot many rounds from a rest on 2 separate outings and getting the same result. I guess I'm just going to have to hold low at 15 yards or maybe get a taller front sight and change it out.

Other than that, I really like the G44. I've had no issues at all and have shot several different brands of bulk .22 ammo through it. I'm not having any magazine or feed issues with it either like some of the videos seem to be reporting.

I've been able to find some .22 LR ammo so as long as I can keep some of that around I will keep shooting.

Yesterday,,,
Even though it was windy as all heck.

I have an H&R .22 Sportster that had a Bushnell Banner scope mounted on it,,,
The scope interfered with the hammer so it had very high rings,,,
That meant there was no way to get a good cheek weld.

I yanked the scope and mounted an inexpensive NcStar red dot on it,,,
That brought the optic more in line with my eyes,,,
Now I can get a decent cheek weld.

I spent a happy hour dialing the optic in,,,
Even with the wind I think I have it pretty close.

Check it out,,,
A Tactical H&R .22 Sportster.

Ten rounds at 50 yards,,,
Not the tightest group I've shot
But, 69 year old eyes and a high wind,,,
That's my alibi and I'm going to stick with it.

I did discover one thing about red dots.

Your (my) first inclination is to dial the intensity all the way up,,,
But when you do the brightness of the dot "covers" the target area more.

I found that dialing it down until it's just barely visible,,,
Allowed me to see the target area more clearly.

So after many years sitting in the case,,,
This little plinker is going to see more range time now.

Today I fired a Federal 3/4 oz 20 ga slug into 4 gallons of water from 21ft into 4 gallon jugs just for grins...I used my little cut down Stevens single shot, it`s a blast to shoot! :thumb:

That little slug pretty much destroyed the first gallon and busted the 2nd wide open but did not pass through the back side...

I went to the range yesterday with three single-shot .22 rifles,,,
All three have new-to-them scopes that needed sighting in.

Mauser es340B with a used Leupold 3-9x40 Rifleman scope,,,
I'm hoping this will be my long range rimfire rifle.

After about 30+ rounds dialing it in,,,
I was hitting a 2" spinner at 100 yards.

Apparently that Wheeler Engineering scope leveler worked fine.

I first sighted it in at 50 yards then switched to 100 yards,,,
There was about 10 inches drop at that distance,,,
But the left-right windage was still spot on,,,
I just needed to adjust the elevation.

This is the first time I've shot seriously with this old German lady,,,
I do believe that we are gonna get along just fine.

Henry Acu-Bolt with a new Simmons 3-9x32 scope,,,
This is a true workhorse of a rimfire rifle,,,
Plain Jane and pure utilitarian.

This only took 10+ rounds,,,
Hitting a 1" spinner at 50 rounds.

Western Field 815 (Mossberg 320) with a new Simmons 4x32 scope,,,
Just a very nice classic firearm I rescued from a pawn shop.

This scope was almost dead on with the first shot,,,
After a few 3-shot groups I was hitting a 1" spinner at 50 yards.

That was a very enjoyable 2 1/2 hours for me,,,
Then the wind came up so I went home.

Next up are three more rifles,,,
  • CZ-512 semi-auto .22 Rifle with a Nikon 4-12x40 Prostaff Rimfire scope,,,
Another hopeful for a long range rifle.
  • CZ-512 semi-auto .22 Carbine with a Nikon 3-9x40 Prostaff Rimfire scope,,,
Bought on a whim it's an insanely fun little shooter.
  • Savage MK-IIF with a new Simmons 3-9x32 scope,,,
With an old 2x scope this rifle was shooting 1" at 50 yards,,,
I have high hopes that this new scope will improve on that just a bit.

It's been a few weeks for me, and I'm starting to have withdrawal symptoms. I'll be headed out to Lexington this afternoon. Mostly going to shoot some 22's because of the economics, but I'll bring a few magazines to run through the CZ Scorpion.
