Watching KOCO TV 5, and this Dr. from Harvard they are interviewing just said that the wearing of mask's is not to protect you, but to protect other people from your droplets when you sneeze or cough.
Whole big thread fighting this out already. Personally, I think they are fairly minimal protection in the general public as far as catching/being exposed, but could help reduce spread from those who are already infected and don't know it.
Wow, cant believe a Dr said that. Yeah some will be caught if you sneeze or cough but if you're wearing mask, much of that is going to blow out the sides WITH a good quantity of droplets. Air is like water, it takes the path of least resistance
Where as if someone coughs/sneezes their snot your way, the mask will prevent you from getting infected
Well I hadnt even seen your post untill mine posted. I also didnt know they were talking about non N95 masks so I get what youre saying.I should have clarified he was talking about non-n95 masks, with reference that there wasn't much availability to Ascension healthcare workers and its substitutes.
All of this depends on the mask for sure, but what he's saying is that something is better than nothing, but don't expect the non-n95 masks to be as effective in protecting you. It will help protect the public from you if you are positive. I believe Faucci has said the same thing.
