They do what they can, it is what it is. If it's an emergency don't call the GW, call 911.
On a unrelated thing, I called 911 last month. I was out putting firewood in the greenhouse heater about 3 am. I noticed a light shining into the greenhouse and thought that looks brighter than the security light from my neighbor.
When I step outside I see it is a vehicle up at the intersection. I figured it was one of the locals stopped for a restroom break or grabbing another cold one.

I hear the vehicle door close and the vehicle continues up the road that goes to the houses behind me. Then I see a flashlight shining where the vehicle had stopped.

I figured it was a spotlighter going to walk the road and check out my fields. I walk out to the south so I could see them when they got past the trees in the fence line. I never saw anything and went back to the greenhouse.

It was then that I could see the person was trying to set fires. I got on the phone with 911 and told the dispatcher what was happening. It was probably at least 200 yards away so I couldn't see any details on what the vehicle was.

Luckily there was a light frost and the fires never got going. The vehicle came back and picked up the arsonist and headed east towards talihina while I was on the phone.
I didn't have my spot sprayer ready because it's winter and don't want the pump to freeze. Dispatch contacted the volunteer fire department. The fire fizzled out before they arrived. It took 30 minutes for them to get here.
There was plenty of standing prairie grass that would have made a good fire had it not been for the frost .
I don't know if the call was worth it as the fire department said unless you know who it was it doesn't really do much good. At least I hope they are aware of someone is out there .

I know it's a long read. That's how it is here. I never saw any law enforcement. Since I couldn't see what they were driving I couldn't give them any information.
The road that goes up behind me is a dead end . Anyone that travels that direction has to come back the same way. There's a few people back there that are certainly capable of that. They drift in and out of jail.

Most of the time they don't bother me and I don't bother them.

County sheriff office is 30 miles away and you have to go through the wilburton pd to contact them.

Y’all just haven’t had the right special interest group pay of the ODWC enough like they did the Texas Parks and Wildlife.
In Texas, there’s a Managed Land Deer permit (MLD) that allows the hunters on the properties in the program to legally gun hunt starting on what’s supposed to be the first day of archery season and have a more liberal bag limit too. It’s usually big leases that do it, but I heard there’s no minimum acreage. If any of my places were beside a MLD property, I’d be pissed.
The MLD season also runs to the end of February when regular season ends the first week of January. I am not sure what the requirements are to get it but I bet it has more to do with money than anything.

I'm sure it's a combo of many factors. Drought hurt the deer way worse than the turkeys in my areas at least.
This has been a turn around year for our turkey. We went from a 50+ flock that was in our yard almost every evening to nothing about 5 years ago.
We live in the middle of around a thousand acres where no hunting is allowed by the landowners.
The Arkansas river is 1 mile away, so there is water, plus a couple of ponds that are nearer.
Last year we saw a few hens and maybe two poults. This year, the numbers have quadrupled with flocks of hens and other flocks of a half dozen toms coming around.
We have our fingers crossed that the population continues to increase.

Where we need to be according to ....you?
Well, I shoot a few does here and there and shoot only mature bucks. Since we started the 140" rule on our place (and the neighbors as well) nobody has shot anything less than a 140" in 9 years, and we are about to up it to 150". Hey I get it, some people don't and that's fine, but we like great bucks over good bucks all day long! If you don't that's fine, that's you. So according to me, we need to be shooting mature bucks, not dinks. And not all mature bucks even make it to 140" but its easy enough to distinguish the difference between mature and not. I have no shame in admitting I hunt for the hunt. Im after large mature, if you are not, then don't worry about it.

So do you run out with a tape measure before you shoot? 🙃
