Curious... with the advent of OC, I am carrying a lot more at home in the house, just because the holsters are much more comfortable. I really like having my firearm on me, as opposed to on top of the fridge or on my desk or whatever.
Anyways, the question is about your consumption of "adult beverages." I realize it is not a good idea out in public, but the fact is, I don't care if I've had a couple of stiff drinks or not, if someone smashes in my door, I'm going to do my best to stop the threat, imbibing or not. At that point, all bets are off, and while the question would certainly come up, does anyone think in the eyes of the law it would make a real difference what your BAC was if something happened? I'm talking a home invasion, etc. The facts in such cases often seem pretty clear-cut, so I would think as long as you don't wildly blast away at the neighborhood, you're probably fairly safe.
Of course, I would never advocate recreational use of firearms when consuming alcohol, but I don't intend to either stay sober 100% of the time in my own home, nor give up my right to the castle doctrine if I decide to have a few drinks.
It seems like a complicated scenario to me that obviously will have many good points, proponents and detractors on both sides. However, personally almost never am I so inebriated that I would be completely unsafe with a firearm. Simply having my holstered, loaded, chambered and safed handgun on my person while drinking makes nothing more or less safe, IMNSHO.
Any thoughts on the matter?
