I'd like to know why he believes it's not a good idea. Would it put him out of a job, or what?

I mean, I really can't think of a good reason at all. And I'm brilliant.

He said "adding more guns wont help at all"

I agree with this statement, though not likely in the context he meant it (and this isn't picking an argument with you). The gun doesn't save lives anymore than it kills people. It's simply a tool, not a talisman (as Mr. Brown put it).

Mindset, skillset, toolset... in that order!

The person and their mindset and skillset are determining factors. The tool itself won't help on its own.

Said on GMA that members shouldn't protect themselves. He said "I've been a bureaucratic administrator for 42 years and them carrying guns isn't a good idea, they should leave it up to the police". Typical

Fixed it for him. Not really sure I'd be interested in the opinions of a guy who's job duty is essentially to stand in the Senate and hold a gavel for someone else.

Here, but occasionally There.
Well, I take the Sargeant-at-Arms' comment a little differently than some others here on the forum.

First of all, he probably recognizes that the majority of those members of either the Senate or the House of Representatives to be absolutely incapable of correctly using the weapon. Or, even to properly secure the weapon if they were in their offices.

I mean, this is a firearms forum, and there are members on here that I worry about owning weapons. At least, based on some of the comments they make. How many times has someone stated they are "gonna blow someone away" when they break into their homes? Even though the burglar doesn't even have any kind of weapon with which to threaten the homeowner.

That is why I would worry about members of Congress being able to protect themselves.

Thanks for fixing that.

I think there are alot of members of our government who would be fully capable of defending themselves and like other citizens they would need advanced training too. Honestly tho how many members here have recieved any advanced training at all and carry guns on a daily basis. I agree that perhaps all of our members of congress or the government in general being armed is a bad deal, but who am I to tell any of them that they cant be?

I personally think anyone who carries a weapon should be required to pass an MMPI and at least show more proficency than just being able to pull the trigger.

Because we want the state asking us about our sex lives and bowel movements to determine if we are approved?

:screwy:

ETA: I guess I mean to say that if you don't have the crazy test to get a gun, then the requirement of passing the crazy test to carry it becomes irrelevant. The crazy people MIGHT. JUST. CARRY. ILLEGALLY.

'Hack, I ninja-edited this on you :)

I "failed" my MMPI because I was overly concerned about my weight. I think the "doctor" just wanted more money. If I was overly concerned about my weight I wouldnt be a fat ass.

You are obviously unstable and unqualified to carry a weapon for self-defense. I say that not because of your MMPI, but after having met ya! :D

All jokes aside, any qualification of sanity to carry weapon does not matter unless there is an equally stringent qualification to obtain one. Whether one is for or against the qualifications, this fact remains.

Isn't he the guy who is about EIGHT THOUSAND years old and who's only job is to keep the Senate from busting into an all-out brawl.....................yeah right!

EDIT: My bad, I Googled him, he isn't 8000 years old but the rest of my statement applies
