So does mean I'm free to record all my own phonecalls and then use those recordings to support a point I'm trying to make? I'm thinking specifically of an incident with our insurance company; one person says one thing and then the next contradicts the first - I love insurance companies.

I'm not an attorney and I don't play one on TV, however what I was told by the DA....

There is no "duty to inform" in the State of Oklahoma.

If you do, I would suggest that if you are ever asked why you did not tell the other person you were recording the conversation that you use that phrase.

Same goes for person to person conversations, interviews, discussions with employees, etc.

Doesn't mean that the ruling party will actually use the information on the recording, even it if proves your case. Especially the Oklahoma Employment Commission. Believe me on that one!!!!

Not just Insurance companies, obviously. But I was thinking of this exact thing yesterday. I took my computer to the highest rated (on Yelp) repair joint here in Austin. They've had it a week and a half, I've talked to 3 different people, all of them told me a different story. This is just the latest thing. It's like I need a dashcam on me at all times, like the cops have. This would be especially handy for refuting the wife. Somehow, I still don't think recording her would turn out well.

Another quick note along the same lines.

Most people assume that when they are put on hold, the person at the other end is not listening. That may be true some of the time but is definitely not true all of the time. Particularly when you are in the process of negotiating something, be careful what you say. A friend of mine used to work for the phone company and worked in the complaints dept. His job was to turn a complaint into an upsell. Sometime during the process, he would put the person on hold and listen to what they were saying. Often times, he would hear them talking to someone else in the room and he could tell from that conversation how he should negotiate with them.

Just thought you should know.

I think you need to be careful if you're recording on the phone and the other end is in a two party state.

If they are in a two-party state, then the comparitive impairment test for resolving conflicts of laws between two or more states would resolve to the stricter of the laws being applicable.
