Looks like the big guy is done growing. He is almost exactly the same size as he was last year, and he has had plenty of water, ladino clover, mineral and protein all year long. I know he is at least 6 1/2 years old as I have been monitoring him since I bought my place. I hope I get him this year because I don’t think he will ever be any bigger and may actually start to go backwards

I used to think that every buck in NW Oklahoma ”could” be a booner given the right conditions, but that’s just not the case. Even with everything else right, genetics are still their limiting factor.
This is the third year I’ve watched the buck in my post above, and he grew quite a bit between 4 and 5. However, his growth has really disappointed me between 5 and 6. I guesstimated his score at 140ish last year, and unless I’m really off, I think he’s going to be 145ish this year.

Have you been able to see the base where the other side is supposed to be? My bet is a head injury (like hit by a car at some point). I’ve watched a big mature buck with a damaged pedicle for the last couple years, and from the side, he looks like a shooter until you see the other side. He hasn’t shown up yet this year.
Good grief. I can feel this picture in my plums. That’s the alfalfa county I know - one side is a borderline 6.5yo trophy and the other half is a spindly brow tine. The other deer in the pic has potential but will no doubt get shot by your neighbor’s house cleaner’s god daughter. Or her uncle. On youth weekend opening day, and the mag will be emptied regardless of if it’s her or her uncle. Someone is trying to decide to accept or wage war on matureish cedar trees. There’s a robust **** guarding of the feeder. Minus a few misappropriated anhydrous tanks, that might be the most alfalfa county thing I’ve ever seen. I will never complain about the deer and land I get an opportunity to hunt, I have been very fortunate in that respect- but I’m not gonna lie, that pic has humanized @retrieverman and his spread for me, with all its water. And trees. and giant deer. Whatever he’s got, it looks awesome. It probably shouldn’t, but it makes me smile that I know I have that “same deer” on my cameras.

I had a deer VERY similar to that “one horned” buck last year. But my neighbor’s house cleaner’s god daughter and her uncle shot it multiple times on opening day of youth season…

I had a chance to kill this buck last year on the opening day of archery season but passed to wait on my target buck. I considered him a “cull” because his left side was just a forked spike. Evidently, whatever pedicle damage healed up, and he grew a full antler on that side this year.
