You can get a cam in okc where I have got all my cams for the last 30 years.
Willhoites cams.
You will need the 3 bolt cam and you can get a performance grind on it if you are into that.

I had an 04 chevy truck given to me for free. It needed a water pump as it would start leaking after a 2 mile drive.
I could have kept it ,it had a bit over 100,000 miles on it but I hate that new stuff.

I sold it in 4 days just to get than Gm LS stuff out of my yard.

I see lots of failed Roller cams and the LS likes to destroy the main journals on the cams.
Be sure to check the wear on the journals before you just slap in another cam.

Dang, that's what I was gonna say.

Coworker had same issue with his Chevy and it wiped out his cam. Had to have new cam installed in addition to the delete. Andrade’s Auto in OKC did his. He had some additional work done and improved his performance and gas mileage. He seems happy with the result.

MoPar 5.7 and 6.3 engines are doing it too....in a certain year range. I want to say 2011-2015 or so.

I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado that has had 7 factory recalls (so far). It just turned 49k. Chevy doesn’t make them like they used to.

My oldest son just bought a 2020 Ram Rebel with the 5.7 Hemi. It is NICE. I wish I could afford one.

Well, went and paid andrades in Yukon a grand for the down payment on parts. I should be out $4500 max for repairs and 2-3 weeks. We’ll see how it goes. I’m impressed by the shop honestly, good customer service, nice rides, and it’s one of the cleaner independent shops I have seen.

just a heads up for all you guys, this lifter failure is pretty common, the owner told me he’s done maybe 200 of them in the past few years, it’s what keeps him busy. He said that 2020-2021 chevys are having DOD lifter issues within the first 5000 miles right now. But, after this DOD delete, I should see a solid increase in performance and a slight increase in fuel economy, and shouldn’t have any issues. I’ll prob drive this truck a few more years and never buy a Chevy again.

I had a 2015 Silverado 1500 LTZ. I liked the luxury of it but always hated the lack of power. That’s why I’ll probably never buy a Chevy truck again unless it has the 6.2.

Man it's expensive when you must pay someone to do stuff for you.
I did 455 oldsmobile swaps into things years ago and stuck one in a buddies truck.

Here is a video of someone else with a 455 olds powered Chevy truck.


Would have been nice to have an early Oldsmobile Truck to stick one of my many 455's into.

I just post this because I usually had 300 in the engine and an easy swap.

Hope your cam swap goes well.

My dad's 1973 Chevy had a HO 454. The damn thing got 7 MPG cruzin down the road or pulling a gooseneck with 40 cattle.
You could literally floor it and watch the speedometer go to the right at the same rate the gas gauge went to the left.

I never ever got stuck in that truck.

My dad's 1973 Chevy had a HO 454. The damn thing got 7 MPG

I drove a mid 70's 454 Dually truck with 4.11 rear gears and granny 4 speed.
This was a buddies and I towed cars with it as it was a tow truck with a winch on the steel bed.

But get this it had a 350" in it and got an amazing 8 MPG and he said he stuck that 350" in it because he thought it would get better MPG than the 454 and it did .
He said the 454 got 6 MPG.

I was 21 at the time and pretty confident that I could stick that 454 back in and get better mpg with a few tweaks.

He gave me the go ahead and i recurved the distributor ..all timing in by 2200 rpm and no more vacuum advance.
18 initial timing and 38 total.
I also took the Quadrajet apart and set the APT adjustment at 2.5 turns out.

12 MPG!
Winner.

GM had a very lazy timing curve and tried to make up for it with a vacuum advance.
Problem was if you got your foot into it the vacuum dropped and so did the timing and power.

Most of the time the vacuum advance was not working anyway due to ruptured diaphragm or rotted vacuum hoses or other issues.
