I wouldnt EVER turn my garage into a gun room, most garages are typically just too vulnerably. If you do open the door then the neighbors and hooligans (potentially) will see your goods and safe, criminals will be all over that safe since its a "gun room".

Good advice all around especially on the humidity and vulnerability. Sadly the garage or shed is my only option because there aren't anymore rooms in my dads house. The livingroom couch is my bed and the only spare space was turned into a disabled wheelchair gym. One of the above pictures has a corner renovated into a lockable gun cage, so far thats what I want to go with. That or a new 20'x12' shed turned into a mancave!
My 12X16 shed is definitely my man cave. I don't store firearms out there, but it does double as a tiny firing range. A homemade bullet trap allows me to practice my standing small bore silhouette shooting.
One more thing to remember about garages - walk door entrances that aren't visible from the street are one of the most common points of entry for residential burglary.
