the only thing i fail to understand is someone who thinks their opinion is the only one that matters and is significant. you do not come off the way the other guy here does. you made honest opinions and described what you were trying to get away from and i understand that and applaud it. unlike him you aren't trying to shove your beliefs down our throats you listen to both sides, at least it seems so. he thinks just because he says he was from a conservative county it makes him a conservative, his attitude and comments prove that isn't so. i believe and it will be hard at this point to convince me otherwise that he is a troll only here to stir the pot.
I am not sure which opinions where shoved down throats? The sentiment I gather is he does not appreciate his rights being violated by law enforcement! What attitude and comments prove he isn't conservative?

The original question was do they have the right to I.D. you on demand? I am no lawyer but I know the answer is NO, because that is a violation of our Constitutional rights!
Unwanted search and seizure.

I understand your comments come from a place of compassion but being an Officer is not a right. It’s a privilege. No one forced anyone into the life. No one was drafted.

If someone signs up for a life of sacrifice, they don’t get to use that as an excuse for mistakes.

Hard day, long nights, kids screaming, new borns, marital problems. They should be expected to either take the day off and get some help or get over it. But we have too many people that keep saying the “you have a hard job,” and “you’re only human” mantra.

There is not a single other job in America that can affect our rights as much as a peace officer. The president can’t even arrest you.

That comes with an insane amount of responsibility. You don’t get to run from it because you make a mistake. Police should be held responsible for their actions just like anyone else.

I’ve worked many jobs in my life. I’ve never seen so much partisan bull crap be spewed about such an important position. Law enforcement can have such a massive impact in your life, either for good or bad.

Every American citizen should be vigilant and suspicious of anyone with such authority. It’s not disrespectful to say to an Officer, “you have no right to ask me that,” or “I refuse to answer anymore questions.” It’s not disrespectful to say, “you chose this life, live with the consequences.”
never said they shouldn't. i'm not a cop, but i've got family and friends who are so i'm very aware of what the job does, but obviously not as much as someone who has ACTUALLY done it or is doing it. i in no way think they should not be held responsible if they screw up especially if it's serious. what i don't do and will never do is lump them together like the other guy here does and continues to do. that is no different than saying all blacks tend to be criminals etc. he thinks he knows everything about everything and is to ignorant and stubborn to admit it. it's people like him, who refuse to look at the big picture, who are the problem.

and for the record i don't agree with having to give id for no reason either. in this state, but not everywhere, thankfully we don't have to and that's the way it should be.

I'm done here. got family and friends here and that is much more important than the nonsense happening here. y'all have a good holiday

I have a novel idea.
I think all these police should just quit to a man/woman.
911 can respond with something to the effect of "you're on your own" and "provide an address for the ambulance"

We'd save a lot of taxes and people wouldn't get hurt feelings over IDs and cops having bad days.

We deviated quite a bit from the original topic but why not, we'll have the dispatchers give them a 10 second course on self defense and blowing their **** whistle lol

No, that's stupid. That would require liability and more taxes and someone else getting offended. Ridiculous though isn't it? "5-O asked me for my ID or my name...my rights are offended!"

I don’t understand the whole “Qualified Immunity” argument. If an officer has a bad shoot, crashes into someone, uses excessive force, or many other examples, they are held accountable just like anyone else. And as far as the bicycle situation, if you break a traffic law on a bicycle you have to identify just as if you were driving a car.

The bicycle situation the guy definitely instigated an issue with the Leo IMO, which leads back to another issue of why ppl feel the need to instigate an issue with them rather than a simple conversation from both sides. Bicyclists parents should've taught them better.

I don't think he lumped them all together, but rather that they should all be held to a certain level of accountability! I also cannot help but point out the obvious, you said,

And in a previous post you said,

"i saw that you're from "cali" what else would we expect but more of the same. y'all come here or to other red states like Colorado was to get away from what you done to your state and do there what you did in cali. you bring all your high and mighty ideas with you and run it down just as bad as the place you tucked tail and ran from. you just ain't smart enough to see it. damn pity it surely is and like another member said the liberalization of osa and a damn good red state."

Hmmm is the pot calling the kettle black?
Like I said before we should find similarities and not differences, I think we all want the same thing! A good life of freedom, where we can raise our families without worry!

To be fair, he also said you weren't like the other guy and acknowledged that you left CA for good reasons and, from his perspective, you seem to be blending in well in your new, freedom loving, environment. I see your point that he contradicted himself, but a lot of blame, IMO resides with the IT guy who, face it, is just here to argue. He may throw in a small concession here and there to make himself look good, but he's a troll through and through. We've had others like him on here before, I could name a few, but I won't, and they normally don't last long once their real intentions for joining become obvious.
