What should i do first?

Get the CCL first. Will take ~60 days to come in. Save money during that time, and buy a gun so that you will have it once your CCL gets approved. Doing it the other way around, makes you wait longer:
Buy gun
Wait ~60 days to have the funds available for the CCW class.
Turn in paperwork to get CCL.
Wait ~60 days to get it approved.

Summary:
Buy CCL, and then gun: 2 months
Buy gun, then CCL: 4 months

It's a simple decision, if you look at it that way

Nothing like picking up a gun charge that would prevent you from getting your CCL.

Well you will need a pistol for the class, but since you already have a semi-auto, I would reccomend taking the class first and sending paper work, and then concentrate on a CCW.

If you did not already have a pistol, I would say get one then the permit.

And yeah I would not reccomend carrying a loaded pistol in your truck without a license first. as previous post that WILL get you jail time for Carrying a Concealed Weapon or CCW

I hope someone will correct me if I am wrong but I though carry a loaded [concealed] handgun in your vehicle without a permit was only a traffic violation. Not an arrest-able offense?

another vote for the ccl...then heck you got a month to fugure out how and what to get to carry. for that matter you can carry something less expensive, till you save for your favorite piece, but you cannot do it without your ccl.
