I was a member of a CU for 50 yrs that i joined back when i was working for a grocery retail and had a very small saving in it but for the last 29yrs i only made 1 cent a yr on it so i finally closed the account this year, but like stated above i deal with small local banks and keep enough cash on hand to get by on for several months if needed.

For this and many other reasons I only bank at local banks, and have cash in the safe to cover myself if even those guys get squirrelly.
Be very careful and watch everything your bank does. I, too, used to only go with small, local banks, until corporate banks started buying them up. Many of the small, local banks are not actually locally owned anymore.

Just another Chase story.

My wife had her hair done, paid with a hundred-dollar bill. Next day we get a frantic call from hair lady, she went to bank and they would not accept the bill, said it was counterfeit. I talked to her asked her what happened, what bank/branch she went to, did she ask for a manager, did they confiscate the bill.

It was Chase, a major branch, not the grocery store kind, the teller was a very young girl, she didn’t ask for a manager because she was embarrassed, and no they didn’t keep the bill. I met her and traded her the older $100 for a nice new one with the security strip. I know the bill was good, took it to my bank told them the story, after a good laugh they deposited it.

So, Chase had a tatted, teeny bopper, embarrass this woman and didn’t confiscate the “counterfeit” bill to report and turn over to the fed. If she had attempted to confiscate the bill, I’m certain a manager would have gotten involved and made things right or made things worse.

Yep, I been a member of OK Credit Union for almost 40 years. Used to be called OK Emploees CU but they recently got big enough to open up to non state employees.
I was a member of OECU, now Oklahoma's Credit Union. It held my mortgage. Time came to payoff the mortgage; the run around and absolute unprofessionalism I got was amazing. Will never do business with them again.

I don't talk on the phone due to being functionally deaf.
I can testify that it’s pure hell trying to transact business under those conditions. I spent over 2 hours on the phone yesterday because I’m functionally deaf.
Poor girl was a champ, though. Stayed with me the whole time. There aren’t many like that!
