I'm just curious as to how many people out there will leave BOA when the $5 debit card fees are introduced.

How many are sticking it out?

I'm not a BOA customer, but if my bank did this I'd be pretty irked. At the very least, I'd ditch the debit card entirely in favor of a credit card IF I didn't just go to another bank.

Is the convenience of a debit card worth $60 a year? What say you?

Yes and no. Government regulation did cause a consumer fee to be necessary to finance the costs associated with debit cards (these costs were transferred from businesses to consumers). They aren't free to produce/replace. HOWEVER, they cost about $2 to make. There's no way that $60 a year per customer is necessary to deal with the costs. To me, it sounds like they're gouging on the price and finger pointing at regulation to deflect attention away from the profit being made.

I'll be cancelling mine, and I'm going to try to get my wife to cancel our accounts with them, as well. The online bill-payment options are much better than Arvest, however, which is our other bank.

How many of you really think that BOA is the only bank that is going to do this? They are just the first. This is what happens when the gooberment trys to protect us from ourselves. They will protect us from the evil bankers, but who is going to protect us from them? Just think, some dum bass out there was cheering when the gooberment protected us.

I'd just ditch the debit card and use credit card. Why use your own money when you can use the bank's. Then just pay it down to zero balance every month, paying no interest, and you win the bank loses and the merchants pay the bank so you can use your credit card.

Never got the whole debit card thing; nope never really understood it.

This. From my experiences, you are better protected with a CC anyways. I don't understand using BOA in the first place, local banks have always treated me better.....
