I've got a Mini-30 Tactical and the first thing I did was send it off for a trigger job. (The trigger job makes a big difference.) It's a nice rifle, but they're hard to find. It's my SHTF/home-defense gun and should be a good all-around weapon for trying (more trying) times.

If you're intersted in my trigger guy, PM me.

Owned several through the years, why do we always buy and sell the same gun over and over? I liked mine and will buy another in time. I still have a Factory GB Folder stock to put on it when I get another...

Go out and shoot it, have some fun!

Congrats! I have an 80s model, no bulky handguard, and love it. It eats anything I feed it and it's more accurate than I am. 99% of the people who complain about its accuracy have never used one. I like the classic M14 profile most of all. I wish I could afford an M1A to go with it.

I know they are not precision target rifles. I've got some good accurate rifles when I want to stack bullet holes. I just wanted something that will go bang every time and not break the budget. I shot it this AM, but didn't shoot for accuracy since I'm not that good with open sights anyway. But here's a 5 shot rapid fire group from 25 yards. Lousy cell phone photo, but you should be able to see the shiny spots in the steel. Three together and two down lower.

At long range, 200 yards or so, it was a bit low, but pretty much dead on with windage. I was just shooting at cow patties and watching for dust.

I think I'm gonna like it quite well. I've just got to find a low power scope or red dot that is the correct diameter for the supplied rings.

I had an AR, it shot great, but never "felt" right to me. Swapped for a 580-series Mini-14. "580" being the first digits of serial number since Ruger re-tooled.
The 14 was not quite as accurate as the AR, but shot 1 1/2" at 100. Since I'm an M1A guy, the Ruger "felt" more like what I was used to. Swapped it a couple years ago, but will probably end up with another. Seems like a more robust action than the AR for sure.
What I didn't like were the sights - rear sight was too big, front sight too wide. Replacing them required gunsmith skills out of my league.
