The best cup of coffee I can recall drinking was one I got from the Starbucks' stand at the Norman HealthPlex when my dad had his bypass surgery a couple of years ago. I'm not normally enthralled with Starbucks coffee, but that was abnormally good coffee.Starbucks and the phrase "good stuff" do NOT belong in the same sentence ... unless "good stuff" is immediately proceeded by "NOT" ...
When I went to some technical training about five years ago, they had a Starbucks machine in the break room. It had the roasted beans in a container on top, so it ground and brewed the coffee when you pushed the button; I'm not sure what it was about it, but that stuff gave me a headache--and I never react to presence or absence of caffeine like that. Hell, when I drive late at night, I drink a 5 Hour Energy and a 24oz coffee, and I'll sometimes go days without any form of caffeine, and neither has any negative effect, but that Starbucks stuff...
Take a look at the Black Blood of the Earth ( http://www.funraniumlabs.com/the-black-blood-of-the-earth ), a "cold vacuum extraction coffee concentrate." You know that any product whose history beginsI'm on a cold brewing kick right now ... all the coffee goodness without the acidity (which makes my tummy VERY unhappy ) with the added bonus that it doesn't go stale ... so I can have 1 or 20 cups and it's all good to the last drop!
has to be good...At some point, all of us start wondering how much coffee we can drink before our hearts explode. This typically happens when we are up, very late, in college with either the panic of a final the next day or have nothing particularly better to do than try to achieve acute caffiene poisoning. What do you mean you haven’t done this? Liar. You’re letting yourself down and making Baby Jesus (ten time running All American Most Valuable Jesus) cry.
BTW, thanks for posting about the cold brewing--it reminded me to order some BBotE. I'd heard about it over a year ago, but they were so far backordered at the time that they weren't taking any more orders; I hadn't exactly forgotten about it, but I also hadn't made it back to order any 'til today.
