Did you check the vent to make sure it's still clear to the outside? That can cause a lot of odd issues. It sounds ridiculous, but it's a common cause of issues.

Yep. That was the first thing I checked once I got it pulled out. I have a modified funnel I use with the ShopVac every 6 months on it.

I'll get back around to working on it tomorrow.

If you cant get it going, I have an extra washer and dryer in the garage that could use a new home. You are welcome to either or both. just come pick up if can use. We had one set in a property that we no longer have and now they are just taking up space. More a hastle trying to sell em dealing with all the calls (i despise telephones) over such small amt so they just been setting there. And yes both work fine. We were using this set in my house up until 2 weeks ago when I swapped them for my newer set. I had planned donating to goodwill if they take items like that.

Probably your upper limit therm.

One of the limits is the cause. There are two on most dryers and some have three.
The first controls the temp in the dryer, the second is there to shut it down, should the first fail. They are tied in series, with one having a higher temp failure than the other. You'll have to check them both. Last time I had one fail, they would only sell me both in the same package.
On some, the third is a Last-Chance-Fail type of safety. Usually only the high end ones have the third.
Cheap fix.

On a Whirlpool, the motor will still run if the thermostats go. It will just run with no heat, assuming it's wired correctly. I worked on them at Sears for 5+ years.

Sounds too me like a plugged dryer vent. Take your dryer vent off of the dryer and run it. If it stays running with the vent off then you have a block somewhere through the vent. If it vents through the roof this is a very common problem. Just sticking a shop vac with an extension on it doesnt always do it. If you have a hi limit thermostat failing or if the motor is going out it usually takes a few minutes for it to cool back down before it will start again. I have worked on appliances for years and it really sounds like a blocked vent. If it is a thermostat the part # is 279816 for the set. Very simple repair as well but definitely try running it with the vent off first.

Definitely not the vent. The vent goes outside literally next to the dryer, so it's easy to check for the ground (which I could easily see).

What I do every six months is pop off the outside raincover and screen. I have a hose that I use just for this that consists of a funnel with raised sides just big enough to slip snuggly over the through-wall pipe, the narrow part of the funnel cut, and the remaining funnel duct-taped to the extra hose that I bought. I do this because the way the laundry area is, you have to remove the washing machine to move the dryer enough to get behind it.

But yeah, I've got a busy day today, but I'll see if I can get back to it later this afternoon.
