I feel the same way. My shift starts at 7am and there are always people coming in late. We get wrote up if we come in late and some of those people are all the way up to step 6. On step 7 they get fired. I just don't see how someone can be tardy almost every week. I have never been late to my job and I have been there over 2 years. I understand that sometimes things happen and people have to be late but having a habit of it is inexcusable. This new generation of young people don't give a crap. They weren't raised the way that I and a lot of you guys were. They are more interested in texting and playing on their phones. It sickens me. Technology is what gets to me the most. I am glad that we have the things that we have but at the same time it has ruined this country. Everyone is addicted to phones and the internet. LOL, look at us!! But seriously, kids and young adults these days don't have a clue.

You are correct. You cant even have a conversation anymore without someone checking their facebook or twitter. And I can hardly do my online homework without stopping in between problems to check OSA!
Last week in chemistry class we had to use our phones to take a picture of something on the board. I had to turn mine on and while it was booting up the girl next to me said "why was your phone off?" and I said "cuz we are in skewl" which was followed by "so you turned your phone off?"

Technology has distracted my generation. We dont care about the important things.

I always LOL, when a former crew member that can't make it to work on time more than once a month, and won't step on the property until time to go to work, "unless they want to pay me for coming in early", becomes a supervisor, and then wants to become a time clock nazi.
Its nobody on this board for a disclaimer.

There is something to be said about giving more than is required at work. I am an Elementary Special Education Teacher in Moore Schools, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE what I do! I was a Special Education Teachers Assistant last year for the same school I now work at. I worked my butt off to get my teaching certification over the summer. I interviewed for the job I currently have now, and at that time I did not have my teaching cetification yet during the interview the Principal offered my the job anyways. I was shocked, but she told me she had been given several high recommendations from another principal and the Special Ed director. She told me that I was recommended because last year as an assistant I ould offer to help in various areas of the school, I would help people with duty during the day, and I showed love and true care for every child I met during my day. The fact that I always came to work, and that I never whined about something not being "my job" was the greatest reason I was given the job, AND THE KICKER IS I WAS NOT EVEN A TEACHER YET!!!!!! I WAS STILL WORKING ON IT. But they took a chance on me because I showed the character they wanted in a new teacher. So do what you love, always give all you have, and believe you can do anything you want in this life!!!!!!!

I would rather go into work than use a PTO day for being sick at home, we don't get sick days, so my philosophy is until we get sick days, if I'm sick and still able to walk, I'm going to work, and if someone gets sick, they can do the same as me. I have co-worker who comes up with every excuse in the book, it's amazing how much she and her family gets sick on the weekend and can't make it to work on many Mondays. It's hard to have respect for someone like that, especially when you have to depend on them. The interesting thing is, these types of people seem to be ignorant to the fact that people around them notice these trends and have the same disrespect for them as we do.

I do hate people coming in late, not working a full shift, or being lazy on the job and then complaining about how small the paycheck is or how they didn't get a promotion. But when you work for a big company and Management is too incompetent or lazy to take the correct actions against those people there isn't much you can do. I miss jobs where if you were late constantly or missed too many days you were fired and replaced.

I work for a small business where there is the owner and his wife, their son and me, I am the only one there on time. They come in 30-40 minutes late EVERY day! That just gives me time to screw Off on the computer, but it does make me late to service calls sometimes?? When I had my own business in Texas I was the first one there and the last to leave everyday, it was a very successful venture til I got a divorce!

While I generally agree that people go to the "I don't feel well" card too often and stay home for every headache or gas pain...I do hate it when someone who is clearly sick insists on coming into the office. I hear them coughing and hacking all day and the next thing you know, half the office is sick. If you are really sick, you owe it to everyone else to stay home.

I am always at least 15 minutes early. Whenever someone is late I don't cry foul because I can use that for my benefit when life happens to me sometime.
