Well, if you want to borrow to try, I’d make you that offer too. I’ve got several, and they’re not really my thing.

Adjustable gas plug, AR fire control parts interchange, punch of the 308, rifle weighs in at about 7 pounds. Most AR10s come in around 10 pounds.

It is finally time for me to jump into the scary black gun market and get me an AR. I can tell you anything you want to know about shotguns, ARs not so much.

Any thoughts on the Ruger? I do not want a scope, maybe a red dot at some point but iron sites work for me.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

They are a lot like 1911's, simple and complicated.

When they work they are fairly similar. When they don't work they can be fixed on the most part.

If you like HIgh end stuff it will cost, If you don't mind Mil Spec. pretty reasonable. Then there is the years it takes to figure out the knowledge of everything in between the two ends of the spectrum.
choices are astounding and overwhelming. Just get a Mil Spec and begin the Journey.
Money will be the limiting factor, when you get the addiction at any level.

I started with a Diamond Back made in Florida. $600.00 and some change when I got it. Over time I added a few upgrades. Red dots, slings etc. Seems like if you ain't careful there is always one more thing you want to do to them.

I have not got mine out in months and after seeing this thread, I want to change out for a better trigger.

It is sweet though and fun to shoot. Real accurate for my level of shooting. I have killed a few hogs with it. One shot kills in the 50 yard range. I always put three more in them while the are laying there for good measure. Cut a snake in half with it. It's like shooting a 22 with slightly more kick.

A ton of caliber talk out there on which caliber to have. .223/5.56 is a fine round. Great versatility in projectile weights and types.

Myself I have never found the need to go any deeper than the Diamond Back. I mostly invest in a few more rounds and 10-20 or 30 round Mags. I like Gen 3 magpuls the best for mags.

End of the day, practice and shot placement is a shooters best investment, no matter what weapon or the cost.
Example of shot placement; I heard a story about a young kid who defeated an armored giant of war, with a slingshot and a smooth stone. His skill level was one of the deciding factors, not necessarily the weapon. He did choose five smooth stones. Some say the Giant had 4 Brothers. If so they did not show up for revenge. One stone to the head, knocked the Giant down, he then used the soldiers own sword to sever his head off.

Now that I have grown up I read the story fairly often. I grow fonder of it each time I read or hear about it.
I am partial to Underdogs though. Not so much a fan of Giants who are Bullies.

The only Glock I own, I have not seen in at least 5 years. I would love to sell it or trade it for a model 29 or 629 prelock Smith. My sister borrowed it for a little target practice after we both had just completed a CCW class.
I'm certain she will bring it back when she is done, so I don't even think about it any more.
