Old tax guy here. Even if Clay receives a 1099, that doesn’t mean that there is a reportable event on his end. He was just acting as a collector (agent) to facilitate multiple personal gifts by the group. Basically a dollars in equals dollars out transaction. Net result is he retains zero dollars. All contributors (donors) made non-reportable (based on amount of gift) personal gifts to Rick. Rick has no requirement to report gifts received. Much ado about nothing. Have a good day.

Have very similar Toro brand mower in Dad's garage....not running. Some time before Dad passed, he loaned it to a fellow church member, came back two mowing seasons later with seized motor.....no oil. Just last month, I made decision to ponder a rider. Cut three lawns for 100% disabled Marine buddies, properties for four elderly....even older than me at 75.......family members, plus my two properties in St. Louis area. Heat and humidity kick my butt harder each year. I've had to start take a break mid-lawn twice this year. Need to listen to my body...it's trying to tell me I ain't the hoss I once was. Always pushed mower for the exercise, ease of transport. Maybe, that ship is leaving port. Considering two riders due to distance they will need to be transported. Missed a used traditional John Deere X320 lawn tractor and Husquavarna ZTR 5424 at a little traders village in town near our property in N. MO. Looked at them, but didn't know enough to evaluate their value. After checking them out, went back to buy, and they were both gone. Snooze, lose....

As we age the heat and hmidity take its toll.

I used to be able to go all day in this stuff, not any more.

I mowed today mid morning and it about killed me by the time I was finished

That was some push mowing, then riding the rest out. Still got me.

I sent what you posted to my tax lady to get her take. Here it is

"My question is, has this guy read up on how they are requiring the people who receive a 1099k to report that? He says not a reportable event, but I can promise If we don't include it on the tax return, the IRS will come back and add it to your return, and send you a bill. So I am going to have to figure out how to show it as received and then given away to be sure you aren't taxed.

This is a new thing for 2023, there hasn't been much guidance even given to us that are current and up to date on tax laws, let alone anyone else. So I am not sure that "old tax guy" really is aware of the change that they haven't even made a decision on how to handle completely. However, if he has some kind of knowledge or information on how this will be handled, I would love to know where to find it.'
