Probably a good plan. I have held out for a bull all these years, and I'm to the point that the hunt will be a lot harder on these old bones! I should probably just put in for a cow and be done with it. I know some folks who drew cow tags on their very first year.
I have a 75' to 100' ...shooting ...you can shoot anything, no glass. We installed lights last year for night shoot'in, we have a grill, trails for your ATV's if you want. Up in the mountains...I can host a couple...You can even camp out on the far end if you like. Lot's of wild life to keep you up at night.
It looks and sounds like you have a beautiful place there! I wish you weren't so far away. How many acres you got?
Only 2 1/2 hours east from OKC, hour W off I-40 ...Spend the night camping...we have over 100 acres...I know it from one road, to the next...husband knows, he is always out in his side by side.. then the mountain slopes over by the gulley, falls pretty far down 70' or better ... ...nice view thou
I am not thinking the Grendel will be challenged but the nut behind the glass is a whole different story!! 300 is a distance that may not make me look completely incompetent!! Lets emphasize the "may" !!
Ya'll would be surprised how many pulled shots happen at <500 yards on small 1-2MOA targets at NRL and PRS matches; and they're shooting 3000FPS missiles.
Yeah that's a bit different than just ringing steel at 300 yards. Of course that depends on what size the steel target is too. IIRC, the range that I used to shoot out to 400 yards at had an 8" steel gong at 300. Hitting that with a 1x, 2moa red dot with crappy .223 ammo was very easy. My eyes were probably better then too.
As long as your weapon system isn't all jacked up, you'll do just fine. We shot the dog target in the Marine Corps which measures 26"w x 19"h from the sitting position and standing to prone rapid fire w/mag change at 300 yards. These were the A2 models with peep sights. We didn't have the advantage of optics, front support, or a rear bag.....just a sling.
