HB1647: "6. When the person has a reasonable fear of bodily harm; or
7. For any legitimate purpose not in violation of the Oklahoma Firearms Act of 1971.

Is this "reasonable fear" to be proved to a judge after a police officer" hauls you to jail because he says your purpose is not "legitimate"?

1647 is proof positive that our legislators are not serious about giving us back our 2nd Amendment rights. It is also indicative of how little regard they have for citizens' ability to see through their gambits and how little respect they have for our rights.

Considering the pols responsible for this abomination got elected by popular vote maybe they know more about us and our intelligence and behaviors than I give them credit for.

I would say the same thing about anyone peddling the discharge petition for it.

Might take a look at SB856. Has almost identical language to the house version allowing open carry without a permit. Called my senator's office today and based on notes in the system, the bill is currently being passed through committee and looks to make it to the Senate floor by next week.

Concealed carry would still follow the existing rules under this legislation, but this bill allows anyone 18+ to carry openly without a permit. Contact your Senator to ask for his/her support of this bill when it reaches the floor.

Also, HB2134 changing the law to protect against accidental exposure/printing, or inadvertent entry into a prohibited place has been withdrawn from the Public Safety Committee to the Rules Committee. However, the House Speaker is the author, so probably no surprise there.

Open Carry without a permit? I don't get it. If we want to conceal a weapon we have to pay the fees and have the permit, but basically anyone can carry open? How can they let an 18 year old carry a gun in the open but not let them buy one in a store?

I thought the age limit for purchase was 18?
On the flip side how can they let 18 year olds fight in our military but won't allow them to have a beer?

I could be wrong about the age. When I was 21 that was the requirement. I agree about 18 year olds being eligible to drink beer at 18. They should be alowed. For that matter, any 18 year old that is in the armed service should be able to carry as well. It's the other 18 year olds that sit around and play video games that have no training in firearms that have me concerned.

Honestly open carry I don't have a problem with it. Its an option and I would like to have even if I can not imagine me using open carry. I do think that open carry or any carry with out training is a poor idea. It creates a problem for the untrained shooter that could make a poor choice due to lack of knowledge. I'm sure I will catch some heat on this, but knowledge is power and just allowing someone to strap on a gun and walk into public with out an understanding of the laws could quickly land them in court as well as a host of other issues.
