VM, maybe start a new thread, see if we can rally a group to get down to the Capitol in large numbers.... Something that would draw media attention is what I'm thinking.
If you start the thread you could give the official details of the bill better than I.
I'm in and I could get probably 4 of my buddy's, (maybe a few more) so there's 5-8 peeps there. If we could get a good turnout here on OSA we would have a good crowd.

A few years back the TN legislature wanted to raise the state income tax. Folks showed up at a predetermined time and all of them started honking the horns of their cars. I think they did this multiple times. TN didn't raise the income tax. Not saying that would work here but it might actually get their attention.

Okay so how many peeps would be willing to congregate at the Capitol next week... Maybe Wed? What is the time frame for SB129 VM?

It must be discharged from committee (by either committee recommendation of DO PASS or DO PASS AS AMENDED) by April 14. Then it must pass the House by April 28. It will have until Sine Day (currently scheduled for May 27) to pass the Senate again.

I've got no experience rallying at the Capitol, so I don't know what information would be necessary or the proper way to go about it. :sorry1:

I watched TV 9 this morning and there was a state senator on there being inteviewed about open carry. I think we need to read the law before we make any assumptions about wheither or not we could print or not even with open carry. Looks a little flaky to me.

Based on the wording of the bill, it could be argued that a printing firearm is "partially" visible. However, it would definitely be worth it to push a House member to offer an amendment striking "detection" from the definition of concealed.

If you guys are serious about having a obvious presence there you might call up to the Capitol Building and ask to talk to Pete Norwood. He can tell you what you need to do. Also, I am not sure about wearing empty holsters. Be sure and ask him about that specifically so there is no misunderstanding at the security checkpoints. If the officers working the door know what is going on and everyone is on the same page there is less chance for a misunderstanding.

Also, here's a link to an article about Mary Fallin supporting open carry this morning ... thought you might find it interesting.

I found the comments by some of our elected officials to be quite strange, to say the least ... some of those folks are downright goofy.

You are being very generous in your estimation of those comments. Guess you've had plenty of coffee this morning...

Yeah, GC and I both have worked around politicians for years ... I'm not gonna say you get used to their special brand of stupid but you do develop the ability to not be surprised by anything. I am ever so grateful to GC that he let me leave that ratrace ... He handles stupid so much better than I do.

We both think that the bill won't make it to her desk (for no other reason than political wranglings) but I have no doubt she will sign off on it if it does.

Time will tell ...

From the article:

"Tulsa Technology Center President and CEO Kara Gae Neal strongly opposes the measure, saying federal law bans firearms on campus.

She said at some point, sanity needs to prevail in the Legislature, adding that she is hoping the Tulsa delegation will kill the measure. Weapons in locked cars in CareerTech parking lots would be an invitation for theft, she said.

She said the measure was a result of the “demonic worshipping” of the National Rifle Association."

Darn, she's on to us! Quick! Hide the sacrificial goat before Paul Helmke finds out!

From the article:
“A concealed-carry permit is a license to hide the weapon, not carry it,” Russell said. “That is what people have a misunderstanding about.”

----
And CEO Kara Gae Neal believes the legislature is insane, and that currently no one wants to break into a car on the campus. If theft is an issue, then keep the gun on the person, not stolen very often there. I am glad we have people like her in charge of training the next generation.
