WROL or SHTF possibilities aren't limited to the extreme and sometimes ridiculous scenarios you see on television or in most movies. As world population increases a film like Contagion describes a very real possibility. It's already happened several times in the past. I think we're arrogant and foolish to believe it won't happen again. It's just a matter of when. The Black Plague killed off 50% of the population of Europe. The flu pandemic of 1918 killed 50 million people world wide. Both of those examples occurred when travel was much more limited than it is today. Stockpiling food and supplies doesn't have to be extravagant. It can be something as simple as a two week supply of food and water.
