I remember the '78- '79 trapping season, coons were $12 to $35, fox $15 for a poor pelt to $50 for above average. Bobcats were $75 to $150 with choice markings topping $250. Coyote were $25 to $40.
I made more money that winter than a person could working 40 hrs a week all year at a minimum wage job.

The good thing about it was I loved every minute of it.

Blame it on PETA and libturds, destroying the fur trade.
My college days, back in mid '70s, we got our beer money from coon hides. A good hide would bring $20. We could make $100 - $200 a weekend.
In the early 80's my cousin lived 10 miles East of Newkirk. On his way to high school he would run his trap lines, rebaiting/resetting after school. Typically using the culverts etc under the roads.
By his senior year, he bought a brand new chevy pickup with his fur money in cash.
Coyote with a gunshot hole the size of a baseball in the off side would still bring $35. Bobcats over $200 each.
