Looks like a dedicated scammer took the time to reach out to a semi-hid number. I don’t think anyone would fall for this but surprisingly, we get a few a year.Probably something to do with this

I used to get them off Craigslist ads. I used to get them to send the check to the local police station, made them waste their resources to mail fake checks,Some scammer sent me a check in a certified mail envelope.
I told him the rain ruined it and to send another one and he did.
Took the first one to my bank and they could not confirm if it was real or fake but said after a 3 day hold in my account they would be able to tell.
Yea that was not going into my account.
But the fool did send another one and that cost him money and time.
I never sent him anything.
