I just read through each of the bills in OK2A's text update from last night.

Definitely great news and I am completely onboard with the message it sends, though I am curious how much of it would stand up to scrutiny if it is in direct conflict of Federal legislation. I would assume it would turn into lawsuits between the State and Federal governments, right? I would imagine the Supremacy Clause would be invoked here if it truly came to a stand off.

You are correct. That was settled in 1865.

Same thing would apply to the abortion ban bill . . . why waste time and money only to be defeated?

I think a lot of it is posturing and used as a way to send a message to both other states and the Federal government.

On the other hand, wouldn't the municipalities in California that implemented restrictions on capturing and deporting illegal aliens be a similar situation? It is still a self-proclaimed sanctuary area from Federal law, it just hasn't been challenged yet that I am aware of. I think San Francisco was the prominent one I am thinking of.
