Allergic?

I have a different problem. I can't stand raw fresh tomatoes, but can eat them by the bushel in anything cooked. Salsa, stew, chili, swiss steak, etc., etc. If they are cooked I'm GTG.

And I'm just the opposite with spinach. I don't even want it in my house if it's cooked, but I'll eat the heck of it raw.

If I eat tomato, raw or cooked although raw is the worst, I have bad stomach problems later. As in cramps and later stay close to a toilet, or occasionaly throwing up. Been told its an intolerance to the tomato acid. It's kinda funny, I have found that I can eat most BBQ sauces, but ketchup is a no go. With some stuff if I eat enough other stuff it seems to dilute the acid enough to not be a problem (or just mild enough to make it manageable) For instance, if we order pizza, we get 1 alfredo sauce pizza and 1 regular. I can have a piece or two of regular as long as I have several alfredo pieces. Kinda weird. Needless to say, stew and chili are full of tomato juice. Chili has been a bad idea (but almost worth it) a few times.....

I can't eat beans because of the same type of problem, so I feel for ya. Haven't had chili since the problem started when I was 6 or 7, and I loooooooooved it before:(.

I'd say if you want something that way with the same kind of taste, see if there are any types of dried tomato spices or the like that you can add in to get the flavor without the issue.

Good chili doesn't have tomato as an ingredient. If you want it red just add more paprika. I've never made chili using tomato of any kind. I use my mothers recipe that is way older than I am! (that is currently pushing 60)

Beat me to it. I was going to say that traditional chili didn't contain any tomatoes.

Sorry to hear that. Pizza hut pizza kills me.

eat Cincinnati chili that uses no tomatoes

closest you'll find around here is Coney Island downtown
the original one ... one of the finest chili anywhere. (they may use tomato paste, so check before eating) next to mine of course....
