Judging by the separation of the fender and armor in the middle of the tank it appears to be the one from Aberdeen Proving Grounds without a doubt. I know APG is moving all their armor and what they had at the museum, which was impressive, over the last few years as they restructure the post. I will be at APG Monday morning so I will see what all they have left.

I do not know. I imagine other museums around the states. I know the Patton museum at FT Knox has quite a few restored and operational. I will ask the museum director where that exact one was going if I get a chance next week. APG had a few restored and operational shermans parked in a parking lot last year, but the rail cannons and a lot of the other armor pieces were gone.

I know, APG had some amazing stuff, like dual mounted 88s, coastal artillery, test weapons, etc. I went out there about 12 years ago as a young SPC to visit my grandad. I was working for a SFC, tanker type, who said his grandfather had delivered a king tiger to the states at the end of WWII. He also stated before they loaded it they did some testing by shooting it with the Shermans. He said it was possible it was still out there. Well sure enough I found out, I do not remember how many glancing blows were on it but I seem to recall at least 11 with none penetrating the armor. Interesting story for me, FWIW.
