The issue with the 396 was the push rods bending. My uncle was a mechanic at a chevy dealership. That was his only complaint on the 396. I drove his Chevelle a couple of times, and your right. It was fast.

It was easy to over rev those engines. The L78 had domed pistons and an over reved engine would float those valves and bend those push rods. It did happen to me once.

I drove one just like this my senior year of high school. I'd love to find another one like it.

Drove a 76 before that. I'd even take a clean one of those.

It's not my "favorite" car, but for some odd reason I have always wanted to buy a 74 Maverick and dump stupid amounts of money into it and make it into an awesome, overpriced hot rod. Something kinda like this one.
