So Zimmerman was a fool for carrying his gun and not retreating fast enough, thereby provoking the encounter, but he is also at fault because Martin did not feel a duty to retreat and instead met a retreating night stroller with overt and physical aggression?

Martin had no duty to retreat and where was he going to retreat to. To his home so that this strange little man that's stalking him will now know where he lives? Z-man caused the confrontation by stalking the kid. Like I said earlier, if Martin was a 17 y/o girl we would all boasting about how awesome it is that she stood up to the stalker.

Might I point out, that the police dispatcher, whom Zimmerman was actively on the phone with, ASKED Zimmerman to get out and follow Martin so the responding officers would know where Martin was when they arrived? This portrayal of Zimmerman as a "stalker" is inaccurate. He was acting at the request of the Police, who he was actively in contact with. Now why in the world you you call the Police and have a "chat", if you were "stalking" someone. Zimmerman had taken on the responsibility of being a watchman for his neighborhood, and was doing ALL the things the Police, WHO HE CALLED AND WAS IN CONTACT WITH, were asking him to do.

He wasn't charged in the first place... Cops found no reason to detain and da found no reason to prosecute. Public outcry from the race baiters with a little help from oracist caused this trial(and the charges) to come about.
