This gun specifically has had me chomping at the bit ever since I played with one at Henry's in Yukon a while back

Well, they are expensive to shoot, expensive to own...for the price of a decent 1911 you can get 2 or 3 Glocks. At some point it WILL jam, and they are extremely heavy for CCW given today's options. Also, Glocks are better.

As for expensive to shoot, you can get .22 conversion uppers for 1911's. The Marvel unit is ridiculously accurate, which you can't get in any of the Glock conversions.

Agreed on point #2. A really nice production 1911 is going to cost in the area of $850-1,500, mid grades in the $600-850 range and a decent low end unit will be $475-600.

Properly tuned and using good mags and ammo, malfuntions are not guaranteed. My Colt Rail Gun (which I got used but in excellet shape for $850) hasn't malfunctioned once in almost 5,000 rounds, most of which were JHP's.

If you want to carry a 1911, an alloy framed gun like the S&W scandiums are a joy to carry. As a matter of fact, my 5" S&W 1911PD is both more comfortable and concealable than my Glocks, mainly due to the overall shape.

Glocks are better than low end 1911's, but not the mid to upper end ones. Sorry OP, I love Glocks, but my heart belongs to the 1911, which is probably not helping you. :)

I recently purchased my first. I chose the Rock Island Armory because of the low price. I have loved it everytime I have gone out. I don't think you will be disappointed with whatever 1911 you inevitably purchase.
