Personally, I don't think it sets a good precedent for the younger generation thinking someone else is always going to be there to bail them out. If they signed a loan, it's their responsibility to pay it back. Period.

Do you have any concerns with our nation's debt and how much this is going to add to it? OR, just kick the can down the road and let the next generation or two deal with it?

I am slightly concerned with our debt but comparatively it’s not that bad vs GDP.

This is an area that a lot here disagree with me on, and I’m ok with that I like most of those fellas. I believe we should be taxed to pay for our American generations higher education. I have no problem paying more taxes for a tangiable reason and benefit for OUR PEOPLE, ie CITIZENS.

I know a lot of you disagree, let’s still be friends please.

I have issues with not addressing the issue that caused the problem and the debt.

Until that is fixed I am not for any kind of forgiveness.

I understand and agree. One big problem is letting the universities set what the “need” is each year. I own a business and would love to be able to get the govt to give loans for my services and I set the ever increasing price! Yeah!

I paid mine, wife still has some but I don't want a dime for them.

Now surely you can donate to whomever college debt you please, but I'd prefer not to fund anyone else's but mine and my family, should they go.

I specifically think it's not right for those that didn't go to college, that bust their arse every day. Or especially those that don't have kids, never had kids, kids are grown etc.

I completely understand your viewpoint. It’s valid for sure in my book.

Should we be paying tenured profs 150k+ that never step in the classroom? There would need to be a substantial reno of the system for me to be on board. My daughter and we spent 125k for her degree at OU. She has done well and is able to pay her debt off. The problem was the TA’s that barely spoke English that she had to wade through.

Ain't got no beef with ya tiasman - all entitled to our own opinion.

I think we need to fix the universities also and the costs are outrageous but not on my dime. Our government is so out of touch with reality that I'm sickened about where our country is going.

First orientation class should be about costs of education and if you finance how it'll be over the next 5, 10, 15 years for payback.
