So yesterday evening I went out back with my wife and son to shoot. Here is a little run down on where I live and the property I have. I live out in the country. It is an addition with 17 houses that are pretty far apart. I live in the very back. Behind me is a heavily wooded area for at least 600 yards before there is a house. I also have a berm in my backyard that I shoot into. Anyways, I shot about 120 rounds out of my G26 and my son shot a few mags from his ruger SR22. Then he shot his rascal several times. My wife just watched this time around. As we were finishing up I went around to the garage to get something and when I came out of my fence I noticed three sheriffs deputies patrol cars parked in front of my driveway. One of them got out and said helllo. I responded and another one walked up. He said that they received a call about someone shooting. I told him that it was my son and I and he asked if he could see where I was shooting. I said sure. So we walked around to my backyard to see my berm. I still had my target set up in front of it so they saw exactly where we were shooting. He then continued to say that the “neighbors” were concerned I might hit the house behind me. I said that house is way away from me. Plus I don’t shoot over my berm. He then said well you could accidentally do it. So I told him that I always follow the rules of safety and am always aware to not shoot over it. He then proceeded to tell me that he understands why I bought the house and that I live in the county and he can’t do anything to me because I wasn’t breaking any laws. He was talking out of both sides of his mouth. After that we talked a little bit about my guns and they apologized for bothering me and left.

I don’t know what neighbor of mine it was but have a feeling. All I can say is kiss my rear because that isn’t gonna make me stop. What is weird is that I have shot several times over the last year and have never heard anyone say or do anything. Plus we hear other people shoot all the time. It’s just the way it is. If my neighbors don’t like it they can move to the city. It had to be someone close because the deputies knew exactly where I lived. So I think today I am gonna go home and shoot my AR for about an hour. Lol.

There always has to be at least one piece of crap in an addition that causes problems. But I love where I live and they aren’t gonna ruin my happiness.

One or the other of my neighbors shoots almost on a daily basis and never a word is said by anyone. I don't shoot here at the house because I have a range setup on my brother's property about a half mile away. It's also where I do the range portion of the SDA classes so It's built with about a 10 foot berm just to be extra cautious because I can't predict the skill level of the people taking the class.

We did get the county called on us once though but that involved tannerite and evidently rattled windows nearly a mile away :bolt:

There are laws that they could get you on. Disturbing the peace by willfully firing a firearm.
Or any type of disturbing the peace loud exhaust on your car or TV too loud..and this is for any time of the day or night.

I know that for a fact. I had the country life once.
Wife made me move to the city.
I want my next place to have my nearest neighbor 2 mountains away.

There are also laws of shooting within a 1/4 mile (440 yards) of any public road way and same distance to any church or public assembly.
Yes some laws suck ..some neighbors suck more :)

Well, what he said about disturbing the peace, you know. Maybe you could talk to the neighbor or neighbors and find a way to be amicable about it. Never hurts to have friendly relationships with your neighbors.

Nothing really wrong with neighbors calling and being concerned about shooting, Nothing wrong with Sheriff coming out to check, Nothing wrong with continued shooting. Im in about the same scenario as you. Ive had 2 neighbors ask what was that one gun when the 300 RUM w/brake comes out to play.

The misselaneous stuff you posted says nothing about discharging a firearm within 440 yards of a public road. And I know all about disturbing the peace. But that was in the city with loud music. The county is different. The deputy said himself I wasn’t breaking any laws and weren’t doing anything wrong. He even told me I could get back to shooting when he left. Of course I was done when they pulled up. I don’t shoot when it’s really early or late. And if neighbors are outside I don’t shoot just out of courtesy. I ain’t the only one that does it. Even if I stopped they would still hear it from all the other people that shoot out here. They are just jerks. I am pretty sure I know who it is and they are not nice people. She is a school teacher that no one likes. When her and her husband walk around every once in a while they just stick their noses up like they are better than everyone. I don’t have a problem with the sheriff being called if they were genuinely concerned about safety but I guarantee that wasn’t it. They just don’t like guns and don’t want to hear them. So again I say if a person doesn’t want to hear gun shots then move to town. Would it be better if I fired my chainsaw up and cut trees for about 3 hours? That is still very loud. And I would use it far longer. But I can guarantee I wouldn’t be getting the cops called for that. But since it’s a gun shot, oh no. It’s those evil guns again.

I agree they are jerks.
I thought I read about public road somewhere where it had the same rules as the public assembly or dwelling.
I am probably wrong..I have known to be wrong.

Yea you are lucky to be out of the city limits. Wish i was.
I worked 3:30 to midnight for many years and installed 4 mufflers on my hot rod nova to try and quiet it down so i would not wake the neighbors.
Did not seem to work.. some neighbors just suck.. luckily they moved and all the ones here are awesome.
Kind of helps I fix all their busted things for them and their kids.
