Kind of my opinion also.
I really think if this thing passes you won't see that many OC around town. A few, but not that many. On the other hand you will probably see it a lot more out in the rural parts.
State Senator Sykes just called me in response to an email I sent him. He seems confident that a bill will be on the governor's desk for her signature. He said the main dispute now is whether to allow for open carry like Arizona or to require some type of training session.
Great news. I'd prefer the latter. Ultimately, I'd love Constitutional Carry, but like a few have already mentioned here, it might be easier for the gunshy crowd to swallow open carry if they know everyone doing so has official training under their belt.
Official training is a misnomer. If you can fire 50 rds downrange without shooting yourself or someone else, you pass the concealed carry course. I'd hate to see some of these people actually draw a gun from concealment and shoot it. Anyone who carries a gun should train with it and be able to put the rounds on target but that doesn't change the Constitution. A lot of the "experts" teaching concealed carry now couldn't put all 50 rounds in the 8 ring or better on a B27 target at 7 yards.
I won't argue a single word of that statement. But, a lot of the anti-gunners are oblivious to anything firearm related, they just know that guns are evil. So if we can cater to their fears (I hate the idea of catering to the fearful few just to exercise a right I should already exercise without question) just enough to satisfy them with a useless piece of paper or plastic, then I'll take it for now. Basically, what they don't know won't hurt them.
Gradually get back to where we need to be. We eased into this position, we can ease back out of it.

Not all law enforcement officers are crack shots either. In each circumstance, it really depends on how much time the individual wants to spend on their own doing additional training, and how well they can perform under pressure.
On the subject at hand, I think an individual has less pressure, and more time to consider their responsive action during a life-threatening situation if their weapon is concealed. Open carry should be for uniformed officers only.
There, I fixed it for you.
Now we can debate the tactical considerations and pro's and con's of open versus concealed carry but a blanket statement like only uniformed officers should open carry isn't realistic.
