Happened to me last year. Was fine then 5 minutes later unbearable pain. Ended up with my first root canal and you could easily see the infection on the xray.
Was first time I actually enjoyed getting shots in the mouth. The pain going away in a few minutes was a massive relief.

Funny you should mention this. This was the first thing that popped into my pea sized brain Saturday afternoon.
very likely infected - if you have some leftover hydracodone from a past surgery,, etc that's what I use for serious pain
but you definitely need a dentist - likely a root canal will fix it but you may loose the tooth
Get the pain managed and all but if it’s an infection get it looked at ASAP!
I once had a mild infection in a partially erupted lower wisdom tooth. I thought I’d treat it myself with salt water rinses, clove oil, etc… it didn’t feel too bad.
Then BOOM one night the infection exploded and I woke up in severe pain high fever and throat swollen nearly shut! Developed a peritonsillar abscess. It became an emergency. Was scary stuff

Tylenol and Clove oil. May try Ora gel if you can’t get clove oil.
