NyQuil is the best. I've taken the flu shot at work every year because its free, and it seems like out of the last 4 or 5 years that I've taken I am sick for a day or two afterwards. It also doesn't seem to stop me from being sick any more or less than normal. I think the flu shots are just a way for the pharm. companies to make more money.

Had both flu shots last year and this year, no flu either time. If you get the flu RIGHT after getting the flu shot, you probably had it anyways. Your body will generally have an immune response to the shot, but you aren't getting the shot. It also takes time for your body to build up the antibodies after you get the shot. So if you get the shot on Monday, you can still get the flu on say, Wednesday or Thursday. There's more than enough literature out there on the benefits of getting the vaccine versus not getting it. My wife got the swine flu last year after being exposed to it repeatedly through her work(pediatrics office). I'll take my chances with the vaccine over the hell she went through while sick.

Absolutely spot on,I work in the hospital and got both shots last year and will do the same this year. Our ER was full of smart people who didn't get the shot.
IIRC,it takes 2 weeks before the shot to be effective. You can still get different strain of flu but the intensity and duration will be greatly reduced.

I get whatever shot Dr. Oz tells me to get.

Screw the flu shot. I don't need one.

They were giving them at the grocery store today, some woman (not a poor woman by any means) was all up in arms about whether or not her insurance would cover it. Shut up tubby, it's pocket change. Pay for it your own damn self. I guarantee you she drove a $30,000+ car and lived in a $200,000+ house (it's Yupppieville). And we wonder why insurance is expensive.

I had no clue I was a yuppie. Cool! Learn somethin' new everyday. Lol.

My daughter's and RN and works in an ICU. She got the flu shot last year but passed on the H1N1. Most of the doctors she worked with did the same.

I'll take the flu shot but if I miss it I don't lose any sleep over it. H1N1? I'll pass. I thought it was a bunch of hubub about nothing last year and as it turns out I was right.

+1 million. My cousin is a pediatric critical care doc at OU and he has a one yr old. She will be getting vaccinated. He recommends all children are vaccinated and receive their boosters.

That doesn't mean anything.
The viruses normally start in China due to the local conditions that breed them. The CDC goes there every year and get several samples, decide what are the best candidates to vaccinate against and then produce the vaccines for those specific viruses.
A couple of years ago their choices were wrong.

According to some stats I've seen they're wrong about 2/3 of the time. Such confidence in a procedure that uses a wild flying guess doesn't seem quite "right". Just throw doo-doo at the wall and hope something sticks.

I don't have a problem with people taking the shot if they want it, but I don't see any need in being shot up with crap that has questionable efficacy, could have short or long term side effects, and for something that typically just makes you feel like hell and that I rarely contract. Vaccinations for something like Polio just makes good sense. The flu, not so much, as far as I'm concerned. To each his own.
