Its been a while since I posted a huge rant, and I've been attempting to avoid doing that, but a few things have occurred lately that I can't ignore.
First off - new folks, welcome to the boards, but bear in mind that this is a community and we're not here to screw each other over.
I've gotten PMs from at least 7 or 8 new members in the last few months. Each time I was asked some advice about something gun-related and in several cases if "XYZ for $X.XX shipped was a good deal?". I then saw a few of these members post that same item for sale in the classifieds for more than they had just told me they got it for.
That's fine and perfectly legal, we don't even have any rules against it. But I will say this - if I catch you doing that, don't bother PM'ing me anymore for advice, because this isn't gunbroker.com or Craig's List - you actually receive a lot here from the community (like advice, places to shoot, help in the form of someone loaning you tools/parts or just giving you ammo/gun-related items out of the goodness of their hearts). In other words, its not just take, take, take.
So please... don't $#!+ where you eat.
Also, I've twice now sold an item for a specific price and once someone laid claim to it, I received PMs offering more than my asking price because of the popularity of that item. To me, that's just plain dirty and I sold both items to the initial person who agreed to pay my asking price first. I think that kind of mentality is counter-productive to the community attitude that OSA has always been about.
Also I've had a few good debates with folks who I completely disagreed with recently, but i still respect them and we weren't at each other's throats. It is in fact possible to do - though I see a lot of arguments here with a "F@#$ you and your cat!" type comment. Seriously, lets all breathe deep and count to 10 or something.
I'm not the forum's douche-bag police or anything, but we're all adults here, let's all put out some effort.
