JFK was pushed into Vietnam by the CIA, and after a small number of US casualties resulted, he planned to withdraw. Apparently in a meeting the agency showed their hand and he came out of it vowing to “shatter them in a thousand pieces and scatter them to the winds” or something to that effect. Robert Kennedy has quoted it a couple times during his campaign.
That, and the issues JFK had over Israel’s nuclear weapon endeavors are supposed to be the catalyst for his assassination. It’s been said that the same people were responsible for the other Kennedy as well.
