I read the article.
So, no randomized controlled trials, but studies of "something that is really happening"; a "natural experiment". But the article states that "Natural experiments are scientifically imperfect, because there is no direct control group so we can’t be sure that any change is due to the masks."
The conclusion is that we should all wear masks.

So you have correlation but no proof of causation. Strong correlation, I admit.

I also admit to being skeptical about scientific modeling in general, and health science more so.
So you didn’t actually read it or any of the linked studies. Mmmkay.

As study on Cloth masks vs "medical" masks.

97% vs 44% penetration rate.

That study is difficult to interpret. It is in the link I posted as well. If you dig into it, it was mainly rhinovirus which is quite often transmitted through aerosols, not droplets. Also in their “control” arm, almost everyone wore surgical masks, so it was actually medical masks vs cloth masks vs medical masks. The discussion section of the article admits this.

Several of the studies in the link I posted are RCT’s.

Ahh, I was taking
An artificial experiment is when a researcher allocates people (usually at random – hence the term ‘randomized controlled trial’ or RCT) to either wearing a mask or not wearing a mask (the control group). There have been no RCTs of mask-wearing by members of the public in COVID-19. RCTs of mask-wearing to prevent other diseases (such as influenza or tuberculosis) have tended to show a small effect which in many studies was not statistically significant. In most such studies, people assigned to the mask-wearing group didn’t always wear their masks.

Isn't there some evidence of aerosol transmission now?

I'm not being argumentative, I'm honestly curious. I'm not sold on the cloth masks, especially with all shaming and virtual signalling that's going on. I DO however think they are better than an elbow as I stated previously, but that's just me.

It also depends on what "cloth" is used for the mask, how many layers and if you supplement it with a filter of some kind (HEPA vacuum cleaner bag or blue shop towel, etc.) and how it fits. Not all cloth masks are created equal.

But with warm, humid Oklahoma weather approaching I can see where any mask will be hard to tolerate if worn very long.

Fair enough, but I have yet to see one person post or wear anything other than material used for clothing when it comes to these types of masks.
