The 2nd is a good example of the necessity for an absolute.

All the other 9 amendments are also absolutes and are written as such they've just been less interpreted than the 2nd though the 4th and 5th are running a close 2nd and 3rd.

If they are all absolutes, including the 4th, then how do you reconcile the clearly vague term of "unreasonable"?

I don't see any other way to view it except as open to interpretation.

If one is open to interpretation, I don't see how the rest cannot be.

I agree that absolutes might have been easier to reconcile but I'm not sure that's what the founders meant or wanted.

I'd be willing to bet they were just like all of us; some believe one way, some believe another.

I think it becomes more obvious that this debate is over whether you believe the founding fathers wanted to establish and maintain a nation that was based on liberty, freedom of religion, and the pursuit of happiness. I don't think they envisioned, socialism, communism, Marxism, or sharia(sp) laws. Much less the judicial activism, political enrichment, or the direct attack on Christian religion by those just mentioned.

I would say that we agree to disagree, but that attitude is what is threatening to bring our constitution republic to an end. One step at a time as directed by the progressive movement. No we are back to the open carry bill, the immigration laws, along with laws on abortion. One step at a time and it is all gone.

Here I competely agree.

I just don't think this bill being vetoed was one more nail in the coffin; we had far more repressive gun laws in this state previously and now we don't.

We didn't turn this state over to socialists then and we won't now.

I don't think it was a nail being put into the coffin, but it could have been one being taken out.

I can certainly see how some folks would see it this way.

I just don't think state level victories do anything for us these days. I think we need to be using the marginally favorable SCOTUS for issues like repealing NFA regulations or moving toward a national concealed carry or focusing on legislation that imposes civil penalties on those who ignore established precedent on citizens' right to keep and bear arms.

I don't really see open carry as a step toward removing the real oppressors of firearms ownership.

Just my take.

Little by little, bit by bit. Every victory is a win, and brings us closer to the final victory.

I would like to take on the big guy right now, but it's just not time, or possible, so I'll fight for every little victory we can manage.
I also think open carry may help us un-desensitize people to the sight of guns in public. Maybe to put them back at ease like they/we used to be.

I think every victory at the state level sends a message to DC as to how we feel on the issue. Without the support of our alleged gun rights organizations, we loose credibility on the issue. In this case I believe that the NRA and ORA are the Judas in our midst. If they get to pick and choose when and where they will at least take a pro-gun stance, then we get to choose whether to donate time and money to them.

While I will continue to be a voting member of the NRA (trying to throw the apologists out of power), I believe the funds I would normally send to the ILA will now go towards other gun rights groups.

I've taken my representitves chuck hoskin(D)up on his offer to help craft a new/better bill for next session.Iwill also in turn donate money and time working for his opponent(cover all my bases) if (and here's a really funny joke)the mayes county republican chairman ever returns my call and tells me who if any that opponent is going to be.Either way my money is NOT going to either the NRA or ORA.I'll even take the word of a democRat over that of the NRA/ORA.
