I'm in a situation of my own lately. I think there is a line between vengeance, and protecting yourself and your family. Many people miss that, and assume any action you take against someone who has wronged you is revenge, and you're not forgiving them. If we look to the Bible as our guide, we see where the most forgiving figure in the Bible, required consequences when someone wronged Him, and hurt His children.

3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, Did God really say, You must not eat from any tree in the garden?
2 The woman said to the serpent, We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.
4 You will not certainly die, the serpent said to the woman. 5 For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

Just make sure what you do, is not revenge, but protecting your interest and family.
That's good stuff to think about. Sometimes it's hard to know what's done out of protecting your family and interests or if it's done out of pride and anger.
That "B" word is what gets us in trouble. We know what we "should" do, BUT, that's not what WE want, too often, we ignore what we know we should do, then do what we want and try to justify it.
I make no bones about the fact that I serve a very violent warrior God. To deny this would be to deny His character.

By saying 'your hands were tied' it sounds like this may be some sort of kinfolks/in-law/ex-spouse deal. If so, the circumstances may generate a lot of emotions that make it even tougher. Hope you can find a way to let all involved know how you feel without creating a worse problem.
