I have to wonder about the intelligence of a person who goes through 4 years of college to become a teacher and then complains that they aren't paid enough. Were they not smart enough to find out what teachers get paid BEFORE they went down that path?? If they weren't smart enough to look at that information and use it to help make career decisions, are they smart enough to be teaching our kids?? If, on the other hand, they KNEW what kind of money teaching paid and went into that field anyway, why complain about their own choice??

I'm with Harley, how can schools be in financial trouble when we were promised that the lottery was going to fix it all?? Yeah, right!

I don't know which ones bothers me more: that, or the people who spend $100K on law school, choose to go serve as a public defender for DHS or something like that, then complain that they can't pay their student loans and they either the loans need to be forgiven or I need to pay the loans for them.

The real question: Will any amount of increased spending improve the performance of our students one bit? NO!

We already spend enough taxpayer money, per student, to send each one of them to the most expensive private school in the state.

Really? Can you back that up? I sure hope you can, because if so, I'm gonna use that little fact *everywhere*.

My wife is a special education teacher in Jenks, and her and all of her associates agree to NOT vote for this

All it does is add taxes and direct it to education in general. No specification for it to go to students, rooms, schools, or anywhere. It just goes to the general fund (similar to lottery money which has done NO GOOD).

I think the troopers should take the hit for the team and odot also for that matter. Their jobs arent as important as an educators. Sorry BB no offense intended thats just how I feel about it.

With all due respect I say this: When something has happened to you or a loved one and the response time for us to get to you goes from 5 min to 30 min I want you to remember that "the troopers took a hit for the team" and "OUR JOBS ARENT AS IMPORTANT AS EDUCATORS". Better yet if we arent as important we will send you a teacher for an emergency response. yes im being a little extreme on this but taking money from our law enforcement is the last thing we need to do.

Im sorry that your mother did not make much money. I agree with you that they need more pay for what they do but THIS IS THE WRONG AREA TO PICK FROM.

How about we restructure the way taxes are collected and distributed in OK.

A little town that charges 10% sales tax, all the residents shop in the next town over with lower sales tax. Low sales tax town thrives, property tax goes up ( net--- more folks move there so there's more property to tax).

High sales tax town gets a surplus of low value housing ....

Get rid of city sales taxes... set a 5 or 6% State rate..State collects... then sends it back to the counties and cities.

Having lived in a "high Tax" state... I will share a dirty secret. Between user fees and all the hidden charges and and other little taxes in OK ... my net bill to government is about the same as it was when I paid $3000 a year for property tax in that "high tax" state.

Oh... when wages go up...taxes go up too. When your little town only has fixed income folks and minumum wage earners... schools, roads, water, sewer are all bound to be substandard.
