My mom taught school for almost 40 yrs here in Tulsa. When she retired a couple of yrs ago she was making a little over $35k a yr and that was for a Masters degree with hrs toward her PHD. Along with teaching qualifications that were required to teach the special needs kids. I have a GED and make a little over $50k and dont work a full 40 hrs a week either. You guys can say what you want about the teachers unions and the quality of the teachers we have . If it wasnt for their union the state of OK would pay them minimum wage. Everybody keeps bitchin about the teachers in our public schools and for the life of me I cant figure out why. If they made any less money all we would have would be illegal mexicans teaching our kids.

I think the troopers should take the hit for the team and odot also for that matter. Their jobs arent as important as an educators. Sorry BB no offense intended thats just how I feel about it.

No offense taken, but that statement shows just how little you know about what goes on in each agency of the state. DPS trimmed their own budget without being forced (sorry, poor choice of words ... I should have said "without whining" ... I am pretty sure that there would have been no trimming if there had been no budget shortfall) to in order to avoid furloughs this last year. That still might not save DPS employees from furloughs next year.

I have some mighty fine friends who are teachers. Some of them are members of this board. When is the last time you heard of OSA trimming the budget. Nope. That's right ... all they do is whine and cry about how it is for the children.

That is BS ... it ain't for the children ... it is for the administrators who sit on their ***** and "administrate" and for the teachers who teach because they are too lazy or stupid to do anything else.

I have nothing but respect for good, honest, hard-working teachers. But like JBTs, the good teachers are paying the price for the bad ones ...

Seems to be the way of the world anymore.

But how will we pay for the great education tools that OK is now using?

http://www.flocabulary.com/

You kinda just made my point. Tax dollars from Logan County are spent in OKC every day to pay for junk like you linked to.

We can't seem to collect enough money to paint the hallways in our buildings...and a lot of property east of Guthrie is hard to sell in the Coyle District... but nobody seems to understand how to consolidate 100 kids out there into some sort of unified district with Guthrie.

Cashion does pretty well... but they have a Super who knows how to write grants for funding and brings in enough funds to pay for his district if the taxes are short. A lot of OK towns don't want the "strings" or just don't have administrators who know how- or want to - write grants.

It's not dollars... it's about the good sense to spend them wisely.

But 744 is not the solution.

Unfortunately, Fallin, Askins, Corn, Lamb, and Baressi all think that the timing just isn't right.

That tells me they all support such a thing, just not in our current budget hole. That tells me that a vote for either Gov or Lt Gov candidate is a bad vote on that front.

The truly crappy part of 744 is they aren't telling the public where the money will come from. I have heard from many higher up people, and many workers for the Department of Mental health is that they will take the majority of the money out of that department, which will basically dissolve it.

They aren't telling because there isn't a defined source. There are three options, in order of likelihood: 20% cuts across the board to all other budget items, 32% income tax increase, 34% sales tax increase.

You should post something on Twitter about it.

The 12-year-old running @744facts gets their panties in a wad when you refute what they say.

(At least, based on the tone and the quickness to name calling, I assume they are 12. The most funny one I got was being called "gross", "cowardly" and a "predator" when I made a post about a Teacher of the Year making incorrect statements and asserting them as facts in her Daily Oklahoman opinion piece.)

Do you have one of those shoulder things that go up?
