Simple math. A tax break is the government saying they're not going to take quite as much from you. An "entitlement" is something the government takes from others to give to you for free.

I do not consider Social Security and entitlement. You paid for that at a rate of 7.5%. Same for military pensions. You paid for that with your blood, sweat & tears.

After this post the thread should have been locked down. Nothing else really needs to be said. Hard to argue with G2G on this. Right on the money here. Great post!

So just exactly how is utilizing a tax exemption "breaking the rules"? What rules are you referring to? This is the problem with class warfare and social justice. If a small company can't figure out the exemptions or doesn't qualify, there is nothing stopping them from growing into one that can.

I wasn't talking about exemptions. I was talking about the huge public-traded corporations that skirt nearly all US tax laws by way of figuring out (or creating by way of regulations) loopholes where they pay well less than their fair share by way of basically illegal means.

Regardless of how much they get out of paying, they still pay a lot. Can you imagine how much things would cost if big companies didn't find loop holes and had to pay in millions more. They are going to pass that on down to someone else, they are going to make their money regardless.

I guess I'm not getting what you are saying. I suspect that you are eluding to GE not paying any net tax a few years ago? Well if they didn't actually break any IRS regs, I'd just have to say that they got great accountants. And I would add that this is justification for seriously simplifying the tax code. But having great accountants isn't breaking any rules or laws.

This is the logic that says if they can afford great accountants, they get money from the government they should have paid in, ie free money, smart move.

Anytime someone is let out of a debt obligation, thats free money.

If someone that makes below a certain amount gets free money on a card to purchase food, mooch. Really?

Id much rather see my taxes go to feed people, call it a nagging Christian upbringing, than see corporate crooks get away with ripping off the tax payers

PS...Id also rather see my taxes still go to feed the poor as opposed to war profiteering military industrial corporations that slide in with bulging unchecked contracts for little or no service.

Lets stop the raping of the treasury of these overpaid corporate criminals before we take food out of peoples stomachs.

How about this?

If you are laid off from work, through no fault of your own, and you sign up to receive unemployment benefits are you a moocher?

The unemployment funds were extracted from your former employer against his will by the authority of government.
Doe that make you a moocher?

No, it doesnt. Wal-mart in my case deserved to pay.
