When reaching compromises, you must be very careful with how far you compromise. In this case, to "take what we can get" would be to accept a separate permitting process for open carry versus concealed carry where your instructor gets to determine if you can carry openly in addition to being able to carry concealed, or if you can only carry concealed because he happens to agree with the Oklahoma Rifle Association's opposition to open carry (whether independently or because of a gainful relationship).

This makes no sense to me. If one instructor refused to issue the safety and training card for OC, you just find one who will. No one private individual could prevent you from meeting the requirements in the law to OC.

Not that I like the Russell amendment, I like the chances of Rep. Martin's language better. The ONLY problem I have is the 4th amendment issues of stop and check the permit on sight.

Now that makes sense. I like it.

How do we hold them accountable? Them f---ed up politicians do whatever they want, when they want and how they want and seems that they don't have to answer to anyone. Some of them can literally get away with murder.

Don't re-elect them. Don't fund their campaigns. Most voters suffer from Epacsem Syndrome - "Every Politician's A Corrupt Scumbag, Except Mine". Show your friends where their Representative or Senator has gone wrong on more than just 2A issues.

Instructors are free to charge a separate fee for certification - whether it be for the application or the award. Yes, some will offer it free, but most people will assume that there must be something illegitimate about the "free open carry certification", especially when ads for the paid courses will imply such a falsehood.

Nothing prevents OSBI from charging an additional fee by adding a checkbox to the concealed carry application, either. Nothing prevents an administrative rule requiring that the open carry card be issued by the same instructor on record as certifying you as having passed the concealed carry course.

To support language like this is like raising a white flag and giving up completely at Bunker Hill.

As far as what an instructor might charge you could call around for the cheapest fee. I also thought it might be a good idea to even contact the instructor you had for CC and they might do it for free. Just a thought if a OC passes where you have to have an instructors note so to speak.

By the looks of things and time running out, it seems none of this will be a factor. I will not vote for anyone currently serving that did not stand up and voice support of not bickering, stonewalling, and amending, that prohibited passing these item all the way through the system. No matter what they were adding that jammed the original bills up. Any amendments could be made later after the governor signed them, or next year.

I think Werewolf originally called it weeks ago... the fix was in long ago.

"Plausible deniability."

Surprise, Surprise... The Oklahoman finally printed my submission to 'Your views" supporting 'Open Carry'... in the Sunday edition of all days. Doesn't the Sunday edition have the most readers of the week? You guys need to write some letters too. It might not be to late to get more support for this legislative session.

You can tell math isn't my strong suit.. I wrote that it had been 30 yrs since Oklahoma had Open Carry... it has been a little over 40 yrs.

I read it online yesterday and wondered if the writer was on OSA. Good letter even with the math flub - you made the important point about OK being in a very small minority of states.
