As your turning the pen, you've got to stop after so many strokes, look at the wood and add you CA over the spots you know will blow up. Sometimes it's the whole blank.

It is, but the key is you have to stabilize it while turning it.Is that stabilized wood? I have problems with that sometimes also, usually just start over. Had a batch of black and white ebony that would not stay together no matter what, also a stick of black palm that I gave up on.
