I insure all of my guns with state farm. They have a personal articles policy for items like guns, laptops, SLR cameras, basically anything of great value. Its awesome AND cheap. It's $2.00 for every $100 of value. So if you want to insure your glock that cost $500, it'll cost you $10.00 per year. Best part is there isn't a deductible. If your gun is lost or stolen all you have to do is go buy the replacement and bring the insurance the receipt. My agent cuts me a check right in his office, so no waiting weeks for a reimbursement of the funds. Win-Win in my book.

This is what I pay through Shelter. I give my agent an updated list every so often when I need to cover new guns.
The first time I got coverage, my agent came out and took some pictures and I gave him a gun list with values.
Pretty easy process to put your mind at ease.

I got mine through USAA and when I set up the coverage they asked if they were scoped and the amount I want insured for the ones I had scoped. It also asked me to list the amount I want covered and insured me on the amount I gave them.

The agent can ask what they want I guess. When I adjust claims I put the receiver as $xxx and the scope and accessories as extra line items.

I got one claim in New Orleans where I maxed out a guy's CC coverage (his was $30K) on firearms. I didn't even get to the optics. The guy also had $10K in guitars :(
He was a bit bummed but I made out all right.

I got mine through Country Financial, it's $8 per $1000 of coverage per year. Covers everything, even if it falls out of the back of my buddies truck and then gets run over by an 18 wheeler, it gets completely replaced.

State farm does not require a appraisal, I just added all of my guns to our floater and other than sending them a hand typed description of my guns along with a picture that is all I did to get my collection insured on my floater.

It is actually more of a pain to get jewelry insured through my floater than my weapons in my eyes.

Well maybe I need a come to Jesus talk with my agent. The price I was quoted certainly sent me to the NRAs insurance program. As I said in the previous post, I have never had a claim, but have heard the are easy to deal with.

I am under the impression that State Farm requires you to have the weapons apprased to set the value of them for the policy... is this true?

I have been thinking about the NRA policy because all you have to do is list the weapons..... but I have never heard of anybody actually having to make a claim with the NRA insurance.

When I got the separate policy for mine, they just required manufacturer, model, serial number, and price. This police covers the full replacement cost.

I own my own place, and the amount of insurance that comes with my homeowners insurance is not near enough to cover any of my collections.

I asked State Farm about a rider for my cell phones and they will not do that either.

I have a large rider for my guns, and another for musical instruments. I use Shelter. I've been with them for 15 or 16 years, and they have always been good to me. Lori Garrison is my agent.

So how much are you all paying for insured coverage of amounts like, $5K, $10K, or $15K?
I talked to an insurance agent with Liberty mutual and she said $2000 coverage on a home policy for firearms and seperat rider for $15 grand would be $450 a year.

My State Farm agent is either wrong or antigun then, I had asked about a rider to cover my firearms, and was told they would have to be appraised before they could be insured.

I have state farm, back when I had a large fireamr collection, I called my agent and told her I wanted to add more coverage for firearms, she said sure, gave me the prices for teh coverage, I picked one and it got added to my policy, no appraisal needed. Your agent is full of ****.
