The best rule of thumb is to skip every other version of Windows. Get a Win7 machine and wait for 9 before upgrading.

I do agree about having someone build you a PC, but if you want a good one expect to pay more then $100. Someone that will build you a good machine will work with you to pick the best and correct parts for what you need and can afford. Then they will assemble it, install Windows, update it, download and install any freeware programs you want, test and make sure it all works together.

Building the PC is simple and quick, making sure everything is correct takes longer. I build them for friends at times and to do it right takes longer then you might expect.

Meh, that's a little over the top, SSD's only have so many read write cycles, that's some expensive and short lived storage right there, that's why I am running raided 1TB caviar blacks for storage still. But I love the hell out of my SSD OS drive. Plus 16 gigs of ram make for some rather sudden performance since I don't use a whole lot of swap file.

For everyday use though I am sold on my macbook

I've been running the RTM version at home for a few days and it takes some getting used to. I've had a windows phone for quite awhile so it was somewhat familiar for me but new users are going to have some difficulties getting used to it.

If you are in OKC area I would help you build a PC tower, doesnt take me more than an hour or so to build them, just recently built my Brother and I's gaming towers, intel core I52500k processors on some nice gigabyte z68 mother boards with 8gb of ram each, modular 850w power supply, Gforce 550ti GPU in SLI and much more, SSD for boot drive...blah blah.
